Solution
Parallel lines have equal slope. The slope of the line given is 1/2 (y = mx + b where m is the slope). Now use the point-slope form, y – y1 = m(x – x1) where (x1, y1) is the point given in the problem. So,
y – 3 = 1/2(x – 4)
Reducing this,
y – 3 = 1/2x – 2
y = 1/2x + 1
