This is nothing new. Since the beginnings of mass production, workers have found themselves competing with new forms of more efficient machinery. This new machinery increases production (helping consumers), but hurts workers. In the 1920s, new machinery replaced and eliminated skilled workers from entire industries. We are still all progressing in the long march towards more efficiency in the workplace. I would have never thought that I would be teaching a class without directly meeting any of the students.
