Calculus Problem Help Please

Write a definite integral that gives the area between y = x^2 and the x-axis over the interval [-1,3]. DO NOT EVALUATE THE INTEGRAL.

Solution

Remember the integral from -1 to 0 will give a negative value.

To get the actual area (not the algebraic area), you need to change the sign of the integral from -1 to 0 and add the integral from 0 to 3.

The integrand of course is x2.
